ARTHUR NORIEGA
I honed my skills as a writer first, focusing on short stories and poetry as my main creative outlets. Directing came later into college, as I began writing the screenplay for my first film alongside another talented film director/writer, Dyan Kim. This experience changed my artistic outlook, and really started pushing me towards becoming a full-time film director and screenplay writer. Since finishing my first short film, I’ve gone on to have poems of mine get accepted into regional conventions and my short stories have won me accolades within my college. It's thanks to these foundational experiences that I can continue dedicating myself towards improving my craft and creating stories that people can relate to and love.
DOUBTFUL DELIRIUM BIO:
A story that combines the tropes of the Modern Fantasy and Horror genres to craft a narrative that dissects trauma and the many ways it manifests in others. The story's lead character, John, resists tackling his traumatic past, despite his friends warnings, and must now confront the physical manifestations of his trauma or risk succumbing to his worst nightmares. I created this short story for the Honors In the Majors Program at Florida State University, and was awarded with Honors status within the Creative Writing major, as well as having my work published onto FSU’s peer reviewed database, DigiNole.
DREAM-LIKE MISERY BIO:
A personal collection of poetry that was initially written back in my final semester of College, Fall of 2023. The poems examine the introspective nature of love, loss, and longing that is brought out through dreams. Some of the poetry is referential to my lived experiences, but others are moments from my friend’s lives that I felt could be captured under this theme. One of the poems, I Hate Building Dressers was accepted at National English Honor Society’s yearly regional convection and was read and reviewed by other attendees as well as the National English Honor society Board of editors/reviewers.
